HPA UK reaction to VAT cut from household electricity bills
Commenting on the new Government’s action to remove VAT from household electricity bills, HPA UK Chief Executive Charlotte Lee said:
“This is a positive step from the Prime Minister, demonstrating the Government’s commitment to reduce energy costs and support a cleaner energy system. Cutting the cost of electricity will be welcome news for households and help improve the affordability of low-carbon technologies such as heat pumps.
We hope this announcement marks the start of a broader programme of electricity price reform that better aligns energy bills with the UK’s electrification, decarbonisation and energy security ambitions. It is essential that attention is also given to the cost of electricity for businesses and industry. High electricity prices in these sectors risks slowing investment in electrification, undermining competitiveness and constraining the economic growth that the Government is seeking to deliver.
